Paul – not taking out an annual policy cost him over £1000

Paul – not taking out an annual policy cost him over £1000

When Paul spoke to us about arranging his insurance, he only wanted to take out the ‘Provisional Only’ option.

We spoke about the various options available and when he would pass his test but he just wanted to pay the £427 he had seen on-line and “worry about his premium when he passed”.

Three months later, Paul phoned to tell us he’d passed his test….

Now, had he taken out an annual policy at the start, he would have only paid £1311 for the year.

As he hadn’t, his premium had increased from £427 to £2109. As he had 9 months left on his policy, he needed to find an additional £1588 to carry on driving, Insured.

Paul couldn’t afford the additional premium so he had no option other than to cancel his insurance and look elsewhere.

Because Paul cancelled his insurance, he had lost any No Claims Discount, had to pay cancellation charges and couldn’t drive his car until he had sorted his Insurance.

We caught up with Paul just a few weeks after he had cancelled his policy. He hadn’t been able to find insurance for less than £2400 a year and the policy he had taken out required him to have a black box fitted and limited his miles.

He’d regretted not taking out the annual policy at the start – had he done so, he’d have saved over £1000!!

Morale of the story – we know you just want to get on the road as fast as you can and the Provisional Only option is a great deal, but give serious thought to what will happen when you pass your test and how much your premium will increase if you haven’t taken advantage of our annual Policy at the start.
